Welcoming world-top standardization expert

On the afternoon of February 28, 2024, Dr. Ha Minh Hiep, STAMEQ Acting Director General welcomed Dr. Nigel Croft, Chief Expert of the UK Government’s International Standards-based Digital Transformation Project (FCDO), which was assigned to the British Standards Institution (BSI) for implementation.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of leadership from STAMEQ’s affiliate units, including the Standards Department, Conformity Assessment Department, International Cooperation Department, Quacert, and the Training Center.

During the discussion, Dr. Ha Minh Hiep introduced the main directions of STAMEQ, particularly the STAMEQ digital transformation program, emphasizing its significance in collaboration with BSI. Through Dr. Nigel Croft’s presentation on the FCDO Program, Dr. Ha Minh Hiep acknowledged that the project would make positive contributions to the digital transformation process of STAMEQ and Viet Nam as a whole, especially with its training programs on digitalization-related international standards. Within the framework of the FCDO Project, STAMEQ will present on digital transformation activities and the role of standards at the “Strategic Workshop on Digital Transformation Built on Trust: International Standards” on February 29, 2024, organized by the Embassy of the United Kingdom in Viet Nam and BSI.

In addition, STAMEQ shared its experience with the expert regarding the pilot application of the TCVN ISO 18091:2020 standard on Quality Management Systems – Guidelines for applying ISO 9001 in local government in several districts and wards/communes of Hai Phong province in 2023. STAMEQ hopes to receive support from Dr. Nigel Croft, a world-renowned expert on ISO 9001, in this endeavor. On this occasion, Dr. Nigel Croft also shared insights into the international standardization efforts in responding to climate change and updates in standards and conformity assessment activities considering climate change factors.

Dr. Nigel Croft is a globally recognized expert in standardization and quality management. He served as the Chair of ISO TC 176/SC 2 from 2010 to 2018, overseeing ISO 9001 – a globally used standard for certifying quality management systems and ISO 9004, a guiding standard for improving organizational performance. He also coordinated the implementation of ISO’s London Declaration on Climate Action across all ISO management system standards, requiring organizations implementing these standards to assess the extent to which climate change may impact their products and how their activities may positively or negatively affect climate change. Currently, he is a Senior Advisor on Quality Infrastructure at the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and various other international organizations. Dr. Nigel Croft previously collaborated with STAMEQ on a project relating to the application of ISO 9001 in Viet Nam and visited STAMEQ in 2011.
