The event jointly organized by the UK Embassy in Viet Nam and the British Standards Institution (BSI) is part of the UK Government’s International Standards-based Digital Transformation Project (FCDO). Attending the strategic workshop are digital transformation experts from related ministries, organizations and associations in Viet Nam, namely Ministry of Information and Communication, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Industry and Trade, etc. The seminar aims to promote coordination among policymakers through sharing experiences on the challenges of digital transformation, opportunities to participate in the global value chain, and aligning public services with international standards. Following this workshop, BSI will implement training programs on international standards in the field of digital transformation for Vietnamese officials working on standardization and digitalization.

At the workshop, Dr. Ha Minh Hiep delivered a keynote speech on the role of standards in the digital economy and STAMEQ’s Digital Transformation Program. In the context of the rapid digital transformation across all aspects of life, international standards serve as tools to build and ensure trust in digital products and services. Standards help identify specific requirements for functionality, ensure synchronized operation of products, systems, processes, and technologies; manage risks, and ensure information security. This contributes to enhancing efficiency in commercial transactions, information transmission, social connections, and brings significant economic benefits to agencies, organizations, and individuals.

With its Digital Transformation Program, STAMEQ plans to implement 06 main tasks. First, amend regulations in legal documents to align with the digital context and apply working procedures on digital platforms as stipulated by law. Second, conduct a comprehensive assessment and develop a STAMEQ Digital Map using Lean management. Third, integrate all data onto digital platforms and develop digital solutions for testing, certification, calibration, etc., to serve businesses. Fourth, train personnel for the digital age. Fifth, connect Viet Nam’s digital platform internationally. Sixth, conduct awareness campaigns to enhance understanding among citizens, businesses, especially personnel in the field of standards, metrology, and quality from central to local levels, ensuring unity and consistency in these activities.

Throughout the digital transformation process, STAMEQ has always received valuable technical support and shared experiences from BSI, one of the world’s most reputable standardization bodies and a highly proactive partner of STAMEQ. Dr. Ha Minh Hiep hopes that in the future, STAMEQ, BSI, and the UK Embassy in Viet Nam will continue to collaborate even more closely, not only in digital transformation but also in sustainable development, aiming towards achieving net-zero.
