Dr. Ha Minh Hiep, STAMEQ Acting Director General received the Australian Ambassador for CET and Australian Embassy officials in Hanoi on January 29, 2024

At the meeting, the two sides discussed priorities to promote cooperation on CET standards between the two countries. There has been a strong wave of digital transformation in Viet Nam’s public sector. Still, it poses many potential risks of insecurity and data falsification, which may adversely affect national security. In that context, a toolbox to assess information security based on internationally recognized standards such as ISO and IEC is urgently needed. To address this situation, Dr. Ha Minh Hiep proposed that both Sides consider a joint pilot project on the development and application of CET international standards for software, focusing on standards for certification and verification of digital platforms used in Vietnam’s public sector. In addition, Dr. Ha Minh Hiep also expressed his desire to strengthen cooperation with Australia on standards education for the young generation, aiming to create a team of young Vietnamese professionals that contribute to national and international standardization activities.

During the conversation with Ambassador Mr. Brendan Dowling, Dr. Ha Minh Hiep expressed his appreciation for the great relationship between STAMEQ and Standards Australia, the peak national standardisation body of Australia over the years. In 2023, the two sides signed a memorandum of understanding, which took their cooperative relationship to a more strategic level. This memorandum affirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation on standard infrastructure development through technical assistance and capacity-building projects. With the support and coordination of relevant stakeholders, it is believed that the cooperation activities between STAMEQ and Standards Australia will be promising and reap positive results in the future.
