Vietnam’s Journey to Sustainable Development through Standards

At the invitation of the representative of the ISO Secretariat, on February 26, 2025, the representative of Vietnam in ISO, Acting Director-General of the Committee for Standards, Metrology and Quality (STAMEQ) – Dr. Ha Minh Hiep gave a presentation at the ISO Climate Champions Network meeting with the theme “From GHG to ESG: The path for sustainable development in Vietnam”.

In the meeting, Dr. Hiep presented an overview of STAMEQ’s recent journey focusing on building and implementing activities to standardize and develop services on greenhouse gases, greenhouse gas inventories, verifying greenhouse gas inventory activities and Vietnam’s orientation towards ESG through the application and harmonization of International Standards to build a system of documents guiding ministries, sectors and enterprises on ESG activities and carbon markets. At the same time, Vietnam also proposed to strengthen coordination between ISO and members from developed countries to support members from developing countries in capacity building and raising awareness of International Standards to align with global trends.

With the permission of the Government and the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), the National Committee for Standards, Metrology and Quality (formerly the Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality) is the representative of Vietnam to participate in the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Vietnam has participated as a member of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) since 1977. The National Committee for Standards, Metrology and Quality under the Ministry of Science and Technology is assigned as the focal agency, responsible for organizing the implementation of ISO programs and projects for national standards agencies, contributing opinions to the development of strategic orientations and policies of the ISO Organization, meeting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations (UN).
