Vietnam attends the Malaysia Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP) 2024

From October 20th to 26th, 2024, the Vietnam Metrology Institute (VMI) participated in the Malaysia Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP) 2024 held at the Standards and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (SIRIM) Berhad. This program, initiated in 1980, fosters technical cooperation among developing countries within the ASEAN.

Attending the MTCP this year, the Vietnamese delegation included: Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thai, Volume – Flow Measurement laboratory, Vietnam Metrology Institute; Ms. Phan Thi Bich Hanh, Metrology Department from Commission for Standards, Metrology and Quality of Vietnam; Mr. Nguyen Hong Tuan, Vietnam National Petroleum Group – Petrolimex.

The MTCP 2024 program was held at SIRIM Berhad. Speaking at the opening session, Dr. Encik Nik Sazali Nik Hussin – CEO of SIRIM outlined the important role of the MTCP program in the general scientific and technical development of Malaysia as well as other countries in the region.

On the second day of the MTCP 2024 program, the delegations visited and worked with a number of key laboratories (such as chemistry, thermal, physics, mechanics, and electricity laboratories, etc.) of the National Metrology Institute of Malaysia (NMIM) in Sepang. The visit concluded with a discussion chaired by Dr. Haslina Abdul Kadir, Deputy Director of Chemical Metrology at NMIM.

In addition, during the MTCP 2024, the delegation also visited the Electromagnetic Compatibility & Radio Frequency Testing Center (OATH) of SIRIM. Here the delegation was introduced to the electromagnetic and electronic testing systems such as the electric vehicle charging station (EVCS) testing system; Household electrical equipment testing system. In addition, the delegation also visited the small and medium-sized companies that have close cooperation with SIRIM in product research and production: such as visiting and working with T-Biomax Sdn Bhd in Subang Jaya, a company specializing in OEM and ODM services in the research and production of skin care and personal care products; visit and work with Dessert Captain Sdn Bhd, a food production company headquartered in Shah Alam, Selangor.

After the end of technical visit tours, the MTCP 2024 ended with the closing session.Highlighting Vietnam’s commitment to metrology, the VMI delegation presented the country’s legal metrology system and proposed collaborative projects with NMIM. These projects focus on enhancing measurement capabilities, developing reference materials, and training metrologists.

The program concluded with closing remarks by representatives from the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and SIRIM, followed by a certificate awarding ceremony.
