Critical Emerging Technologies (CET) and the role of AI in our daily lives

On November 6-7, 2024 in Da Nang, the Commission for the Standards, Metrology and Quality of Viet Nam (STAMEQ) and the Standards Australia (Australia) jointly organized a workshop on “Emerging Critical Technologies in Southeast Asia”. The workshop is part of a project implemented by Standards Australia with national standardization bodies in Southeast Asia under the sponsorship of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).

Recognizing the importance of critical emerging technologies (CET), over the past two years, STAMEQ has actively worked with Standards Australia to research and evaluate the big picture of CET standards in Vietnam, raise awareness of CET to develop a specific action plan to promote CET standardization.

The workshop was attended by representatives of govermental agencies, universities, associations and businesses related to the CET sector. The Australian representative, Mr. Roland Terry-Lloyd – Head of Head of Commercial excellence, engagement and strategic delivery gave the opening speech. At the workshop, Acting Director-General of STAMEQ – Dr. Ha Minh Hiep gave a presentation on the advantages and difficulties in developing AI in Vietnam: Applications and policy recommendations from the perspective of state management agencies.

In addition, the workshop also held a discussion around the current use of artificial intelligence (AI) and the role of international standards in using AI consciously and responsibly, while exchanging methods to promote AI in various industries and socio-economic fields from the perspectives of businesses, universities, and research institutes.

During the two-day event, experts and delegates discussed the latest technology trends, opportunities and challenges brought by artificial intelligence technology. The presentations and discussions not only provided insights into the state of technology development, but also helped to better understand the importance of establishing standards to ensure safety, efficiency and sustainability in technology applications. The workshop is expected to continue to be an important step forward for the partnership between Vietnam and Australia in the field of technology and standards, opening up many opportunities for cooperation and development in the future.
