Promote cooperation on digital transformation in the field of standardization

Acting General Director – Mr. Ha Minh Hiep and representatives of relevant units representing the General Department of Standards, Metrology and Quality had an online bilateral meeting with Mr. Scott Steedman – Director of the British Standards Institute (British Standards Institute). BSI) and associates on March 11, 2022.
On March 11, 2022, Mr. Ha Minh Hiep, Acting General Director, and representatives from relevant units representing the General Department of Standards, Metrology, and Quality held an online bilateral discussion with Mr. Scott Steedman, Director of the British Standards Institute (BSI) and associates.
BSI was the world’s first national standards body and was one of the founding members of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in 1947.
The British Standards Institute is one of the world’s leading standardization bodies, having responded quickly and effectively to the complex developments of the Covid-19 pandemic through a variety of activities including providing free standards on masks and medical equipment, implementing digital transformation in the field of standardization, and being the leading organization in promulgating circular economy and sustainable development standards.
On the basis of the MoU signed with BSI on September 19, 2019 on the occasion of the ISO Congress meeting in South Africa, the General Department discussed with BSI and included in the plan to develop Vietnamese Standards in harmony with British Standards. in 2020-2021 are 83 standards, many of which are related to the sports field.
Mr. Ha Minh Hiep, speaking on behalf of Vietnam, commended BSI for its contributions to the development of international standards and discussed the General Department of Quality Assurance’s primary objectives for 2025, including the goal to create the Standardization Strategy. Review and revise the Law on Technical Standards and Regulations, as well as the Law on Product Quality, and seek BSI’s assistance in strengthening Vietnam’s involvement in the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
Mr. Scott Steedman, Director of BSI welcomed the contributions of Vietnam, and shared that sustainable development and digital are key topics for BSI to focus on research and development of standards.
The two sides agreed to co-organize a workshop to introduce relevant Vietnamese ministries and agencies to the UK’s orientation and experience related to digital transformation in standardization and circular economy.
