POPULAR CONFERENCE ON TECHNICAL MEASURES FOR THE AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS AND FOOD INDUSTRY OF SOME KEY EXPORT MARKETS OF VIETNAM

On November 27, 2024, Viet Nam TBT Office organized a conference to disseminate technical measures for the agricultural and food industries of some key export markets of Vietnam. The program aims to provide information to management agencies, businesses, and agricultural product associations in Vietnam about technical requirements for agricultural and food products in some key export markets.

The conference was attended by SPS Viet Nam Office – Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Viet Nam TBT Office, Viet Nam Certification Centre (Quacert) and relevant units of the Committee for Standards, Metrology and Quality of Viet Nam, and representatives of agricultural and food import-export businesses in the Northern region.
At the Conference, experts from Viet Nam TBT Office, Viet Nam SPS Office and Viet Nam Certification Centre had clear and vivid presentations on labelling regulations for agricultural and food products of EU market, requirements and regulations on animal and plant quarantine (SPS) measures when exporting to some key markets of Vietnam and requirements for Halal Product Certification.
To export goods in general and agricultural and food products in particular to the EU market, businesses need to meet strict regulations on labelling, nutritional declarations as well as nutrition and health declarations on product packaging. Ms. Ton Nu Thuc Uyen – Deputy Director of the Viet Nam TBT Office gave practical examples related to EU labelling regulations for agricultural products and food, and guided how to look up information about TBT regulations of countries on the ePing database to serve export activities.

Presenting at the Conference, Mr. Ngo Xuan Nam – Deputy Director of SPS Viet Nam Office also shared some solutions to meet food safety regulations and animal and plant disease safety when exporting Vietnamese agricultural and food products to international markets. It emphasized that Vietnamese agricultural exporters need to seriously implement SPS regulations of export markets, proactively contribute opinions and respond to information on the draft SPS measures being announced at the WTO.

The scale of the global Halal economy in 2022 will reach 7,000 billion USD and is expected to increase to about 10,000 billion USD in 2028 thanks to the growth of the Muslim population, spending levels, diversity of fields and growth prospects. in the future at a rate of about 6-8 percent per year is receiving great attention due to its potential and market size. At the Conference, Mr. Tran Quoc Dung – Director of Viet Nam Certification Centre presented and emphasized the importance of Halal Certification, which is said to be the “key” to “opening up” key markets and provide information about Halal Certification for agricultural and food products. To effectively exploit that great potential, it is necessary to build orientations for the development of the Halal industry in Vietnam such as completing Halal industry management regulations, perfecting the Halal standards system, and promoting trade of Halal products, …
