On July 9, 2024, Acting Chairman of the National Committee for Standards, Metrology and Quality, Dr. Ha Minh Hiep hosted a working session with Mr. Hairol Ariffein Sahari, CEO of Halal Development Corporation Berhad of Malaysia (HDC).

At the meeting, Mr. Hairol Ariffein Sahari highly appreciated Vietnam’s determination in opening up the potential Halal market and especially congratulated the establishment of the Vietnam Halal Certification Authority (HALCERT) by STAMEQ. He expressed his belief that this is the right step in developing Vietnam’s Halal industry.

He also shared that Vietnam is a country with many advantages to develop the Halal industry, especially with great potential in exporting agricultural products as raw materials for Halal food production as well as developing Muslim friendly service. Although Vietnam is just initially participating in the Halal market, it can learn from previous countries’ experiences to quickly develop the Halal industry. He also proposed that, in the long-term plan, Vietnam can completely consider the construction of a Halal Industrial Park to not only serve the production of domestic enterprises but also attract investment from foreign enterprises as Malaysia.

Halal has become an important content in cooperation between the Governments of Vietnam and Malaysia through the signing of the Minutes of the 4th Vietnam – Malaysia Joint Trade Committee Meeting.

Mr. Ha Minh Hiep affirmed that in the coming time, STAMEQ will promote the completion of Halal quality infrastructure as well as strengthen the activities of the HALCERT Center to better support Vietnamese businesses in participating in the Halal market.

The two sides also agreed on deeper cooperation activities in the field of Halal in the near future. HDC is ready to support STAMEQ to improve human resource capacity in the Halal field.

Previously, during a visit and working session with Vietnam Certificatio Centre (QUACERT) and Vietnam Halal Certification Authority (HALCERT), Mr. Sahari was introduced about the functions, tasks, and roles of QUACERT and HALCERT. He emphasized that HALCERT’s commitment to operating in accordance with international standards on Halal is an important premise to help connect Vietnam’s Halal products with the world. In the near future, HDC is ready to support HALCERT in training human resources, providing necessary advice in assessing and building development plans for HALCERT, as well as providing experts in the early stages of HALCERT.
