Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality to launch the 5S Productivity program

The Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality (STAMEQ) has just organized the launching of the 5S Program throughout its system.

Attending the launching ceremory were Dr. Ha Minh Hiep – Acting Director General of STAMEQ, Head of STAMEQ’s 5S Steering Committee; Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh – Chairman of STAMEQ’s Worker Union, Standing Deputy Head of the 5S Steering Committee along with 5S Implementation Teams, 5S Inspection and Evaluation Teams and 350 members from units/agencies under STAMEQ participating, both through face-to-face and online modality.

Speaking at the launching ceremony of the Program, Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh – Chairman STAMEQ’s Worker Union, Standing Deputy Head of the 5S Steering Committee, said that 5S was developed in Japan and started to be implemented in Vietnam since 1993, which was 30 years ago. During that time, many participants present here have worked as training experts, consultants and experts in evaluating the application of 5S, and are also people who have applied 5S at their workplaces. That shows the widespread application of 5S in our society and country.

“In implementing the Party Committee’s direction and implementing the resolution of the Worker Union General Meeting for the 2023-2028 term, STAMEQ will comprehensively apply 5S to all units, officers/civil servants/employees/workers. The program spreads with the determination of the entire political system and each individual, thereby aiming to build and maintain an advanced and modern management system, forming a friendly and effective working environment to improve operational quality. Connect all members, promote self-discipline to complete the job well; Promote a culture of improvement among members of STAMEQ according to the 5S policy that the Acting Director General signed and issued”, Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh emphasized.

Sharing about the content of organizing 5S implementation at units under STAMEQ, Ms. Nguyen Thi Le Hoa – Deputy Head of the 5S Implementation Team said that 5S implementation includes 6 steps.

Step 1, preparation: Leaders and key staff understand and commit to implementing 5S; Determine the scope of 5S implementation; Established 5S steering committee; 5S awareness training;

Step 2, official announcement from Leadership: Top leadership officially announces the implementation of the 5S program and 5S goals; Announcing the 5S organizational chart and regional responsibilities chart; Propaganda about 5S: banners, posters, flyers and newspapers.

Step 3, start 5S (organize general cleaning day): Plan to start 5S (general cleaning day); Divide areas and assign groups to be in charge; Prepare cleaning tools; Perform general cleaning of all areas;

Step 4, start SEIRI (sort): Eliminate unnecessary things in the workplace;

Step 5, perform Seiri, Seiton and Seiso (sort, set in order, systematic cleaning) daily: Develop 3S standards in areas for training and guidance; Create for everyone the habit of complying with workplace regulations and voluntarily participating in 5S activities;

Step 6, periodic evaluation: Form an inspection and evaluation team; Planning an assessment; Develop evaluation criteria; Organize assessment: prepare (checklist, standards, cameras), conduct assessment, score, make reports; Report results and recommendations; Reward groups and individuals who perform well.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Dr. Ha Minh Hiep – Acting Director General, Head of the 5S Steering Committee said that by forming an innovative mindset, work handling will be appropriate and effective. The 5S policy aims to create a civilized working environment with the same culture and mindset; At the same time, forming a culture of improvement to become the general culture of STAMEQ towards quality that creates prosperity.
