Viet Nam and Israel agreed to boost cooperation on standards and conformity assessment

The 2nd Meeting of Governmental Joint Committee on Economic, Scientific and Technological Co-operation between Viet Nam and Israel took place in Jerusalem, Israel from 24-26 July 2017. Vietnamese Minister of Science and Technology H.E. Chu Ngoc Anh led the delegation to attend the meeting and co-chaired with Israeli Minister of Economy and Industry H.E. Eli Cohen.
At the meeting, both Sides reviewed fruitful results of cooperation between the two nations over time, notably with the two-way trade turnover up by 5 times for the 2010-2016 period, the official launch of Viet Nam – Israel FTA negotiation and Israel’s official recognition of Viet Nam’s market economy status. Also, collaboration on science and technology has seen significant progress. The two Ministers of Science and Technology signed a Memorandum of Understanding to promote the cooperation between Vietnamese and Israeli scientists and scientific organizations.
At the end of the meeting, the two Chairmen signed the meeting minutes, agreeing on measures to elevate the partnership of the two countries, i.e. hastening FTA negotiation, enhancing the implementation of the financial protocol, Israel’s experience sharing in developing start-ups, as well as a series of measures to boost Viet Nam-Israel cooperation on science and technology, agriculture, customs, water resource, culture and education.
On this occasion, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Linh, Deputy Director General of the Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality (STAMEQ) met with Mr. Yaacov Watchtel, Director of the Standards Administration under the Ministry of Economy and Industry of Israel to discuss ways to further promote cooperation in the areas of standardization, metrology and conformity assessment. Both Sides agreed to exchange information and share experiences in the areas of mutual interests. Mr. Nguyen Hoang Linh expressed the wish of STAMEQ to learn the experiences of Israel in adopting international standards as national standards and in developing standards for water efficiency. To put what was agreed into action, a workshop on Israel’s experience in water efficiency standardization will be jointly held by the two organizations in the near future.
