Within the framework of cooperation between the Commission for Standards, Metrology and Quality of Vietnam (STAMEQ) and the Asian Productivity Organization (APO), STAMEQ and APO jointly organized the International Workshop on “Training Course for Assessors for the Productivity Specialists Certification Program” from September 16 to 20, 2024 in Ho Chi Minh City. This international workshop is within the framework of programs hosted by Vietnam annually as APO member.

Established in 2019, the Asian Productivity Organization Accreditation Body Council (APO-AB Council) is responsible for managing and implementing the APO Certification and Accreditation Program in accordance with international requirements. This is an extremely important activity to enhance and promote the role of APO as a leading international productivity organization in the region. The APO-AB Council will evaluate and review, recognize the capacity and credibility of national productivity organizations (NPOs) and other relevant organizations, to build awareness of APO, nurture and expand the international productivity professional community, and strengthen APO’s leadership role in the field of productivity in the region. In Vietnam, there is also 1 certification body recognized by APO, which is the ViProCB Productivity Professional Certification Office under the Vietnam National Productivity Institute, STAMEQ. Through this, we can recognize the great role of certification bodies (CBs) in the development of productivity professionals and regional development in general.

Aligned with other international certification standards, APO-PS 101:2023 provides guidelines for APO-AB accredited CBs to conduct assessment processes including documentation verification, examination, desktop assessment, and face-to-face panel interviews before issuing certification to candidates.

As the APO CBs continue to grow more and more, these processes require capable individuals with skills and knowledge related to the certification scheme. Since the number of CBs is growing and more candidates need to be assessed, the APO continues to offer this course to strengthen accredited CBs, provide updates on the APOPS 101:2023, and share best practices among CBs.

This training course aims to produce effective and certified internal or external assessors for the APO CBS network.

The event was attended by about 24 domestic and foreign delegates including representatives of STAMEQ, ViproCB Representatives, APO Secretariat, and accreditation and certification agencies and organizations of APO member economies.

(The Asian Productivity Organization (APO) is an international, intergovernmental, non-profit organization established on May 11, 1961. With 21 member economies, APO is the only organization in the Asia-Pacific region that has many activities implemented in member economies to improve productivity, contributing to promoting sustainable socio-economic development of the region.

With the permission of the Prime Minister, Vietnam officially became a member of APO from January 1, 1996. The Commission for Standards, Metrology and Quality of Vietnam (Ministry of Science and Technology) is authorized to be the permanent representative of Vietnam at APO and the focal point for organizing the implementation of APO programs and projects, bilateral projects with APO member economies.)
