The General Assembly is the annual high-level event of the international GS1 aimed at updating information, providing general orientations of GS1 globally, setting future directions for GS1, and fostering innovation in the global supply chain.

The GS1 Global Assembly 2024 was a resounding success, held in Rome, Italy, from May 21 to 24, 2024. It brought together the GS1 Management Board along with 250 leaders from GS1 Member Organizations across 107 member countries.

The 2024 General Assembly was organized in collaboration with GS1 Italy under the theme “The Art of Transforming Tomorrow: A New Renaissance.” We are living in an era where companies, innovators, regulators, and consumers globally are experiencing unprecedented changes.

A special highlight of this year’s General Assembly was the theme of artificial intelligence (AI). Leading experts in the field of AI delivered innovative presentations on the revolution and challenges posed by artificial intelligence to the new renaissance of the world. Standing at the threshold of epochal change offers us the opportunity to jointly build a sustainable future.

Sharing Experiences and Promoting Collaboration

The General Assembly is also an opportunity for GS1 member countries to share practical experiences and foster bilateral and multilateral cooperation. The thematic discussion sessions and specialized workshops attracted a large number of delegates, providing opportunities for exchanging ideas, learning from each other, and jointly addressing common challenges in the supply chain.

Strategic Decisions Shaping the Future

The General Assembly featured in-depth discussion sessions where GS1 leaders discussed and agreed on the following points: Identifying key strategic focus areas for GS1 in the coming years, emphasizing enhancing data visibility, improving supply chain efficiency, and supporting businesses in the digital age; Electing leadership board for GS1, comprising experienced individuals with strategic vision, ready to lead the organization towards sustainable development goals; Reviewing and approving financial reports and operational plans for 2025, ensuring transparency and efficiency in GS1’s financial management; Updating plans for various sectors (retail, marketplaces, healthcare, public policy), the GS1 2030 vision, and the 2D transformation program; Welcoming two new GS1 members: GS1 Angola and GS1 Rwanda.

Representing GS1 Vietnam at the event were Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai Hương, Director of Conformity Assessment Policy Department, and Mr. Bui Ba Chinh, Standing Deputy Director of the National Numbering and Barcode Center, along with other delegates.

The GS1 Global Assembly 2024 concluded successfully, marking a significant milestone in GS1’s development journey. With clear strategic orientations, a spirit of innovative breakthroughs, and close cooperation among member countries, GS1 is committed to continuing to support businesses worldwide in enhancing operational efficiency, promoting international trade, and contributing to building a sustainable global supply chain.
