Sharing about identifying waste in production and how to effectively eliminate it at the online training session, Mr. Le Minh Dung – expert consultant in charge of R&D, SMEDEC 2 said, things that cannot add value to a product or service becomes a waste. Waste does not create value for the product, it only increases costs. To put it simply, waste is everything that “does not bring value”. Besides, costs of non-quality cause businesses to reduce profits, push product prices up and cause losses to businesses. Costs of non-quality are also known as waste in production.
According to the experts, there are many wastes in production and in life, such as procrastination to do something, waiting for the elevator, traffic jams, waiting for orders, leftovers…. In manufacturing, overproduction causes waste or inventory, transportation, excess operations, factory errors.
Therefore, there are three factors cause waste: heterogeneity, unevenness, and unreasonableness.
Regarding waste elimination, it is necessary to detect and improve waste according to the three principles: going to the scene, having direct contact with artifacts and observing the current status. Moreover, to eliminate waste, it is necessary to manage the field, productivity index, quality index, safety, human resources, applying PRO-3M, ECRS principle, 4M principle, using JIT tools, KAIZEN tools,…
In order for students to have better understanding waste as well as how to eliminate and identify waste, the experts have given many illustrative examples in life as well as in production to give students a direct view more clearly, from which it can be recognized and applied to their future life and work.
The virtual training session kept attendees engaged and received lots of interesting questions from students. All questions have been satisfactorily answered by STAMEQ experts.
