Promote implementing the Protocol of cooperation with Laos

On November 30, the Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality (STAMEQ)  have worked with the Laos Department of Standardization and Metrology (DoSM) on implementing the Protocol of cooperation with Laos.

The event is within the framework of implementing science and technology tasks under the Protocol of cooperation about researching, supporting the enhancement of international integration capacity on standards, conformity assessment and measurement for the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.

Attending the work session, on the side of Viet Nam, there was Mr. Nguyen Hoang Linh- Deputy Director General of STAMEQ and the representatives from units of STAMEQ.

On the Lao side, there was Mr Viengthong Vongthavilay, Director of (DoSM) and all members of delegation.

Science and technology tasks of research, supporting the enhancement of international integration capacity on standards, conformity assessment and measurement for the Lao People’s Democratic Republic approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology and assigned to the STAMEQ with implementation period lasts for 3 years (2019-2020) and is divided into 3 phases.

The Protocol of cooperation’s objectives: Orienting the development of the system of legal documents in the field of standards, conformity assessment and measurement for Laos; Train professional skills in the field of standards, conformity assessment and measurement for Lao officials; Support to increase standard equipment in the fields of volume measurement – flow, volume, electricity and develop national measurement technical infrastructure; Provide hardware and software equipment to support developing the portal; Develop and guide the transfer of information portals on standards, metrology and quality and advertising and training channels and training related to Laos.

At the work session, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Linh appreciated the cooperation between Vietnam and Laos and said that the Protocol of cooperation with Laos is an important Protocol and carefully prepared as well as most supported that Vietnam has ever deployed.

The mission of the Lao Standards and Metrology Department together with leaders and representatives of units under the General Department of Standards and Quality.

According to Mr. Linh, in order to implement the Protocol of Cooperation, the representatives of the two sides will discuss together and agree the implementation contents and request results for each specific phase. Accordingly, the Protocol of cooperation with Laos will be implemented into 10 main contents and will be implemented starting from the end of 2019 and ending in 2022.
