Viet Nam – Korea: Cooperation to develop together in the test and certification field

On November 22, the Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality (STAMEQ) had a courtesy meeting with the Korea Conformity Laboratories (KCL) regarding the issue of product certification and test.
Attending the meeting, there were Mr. Nguyen Hoang Linh – Deputy Director General of the STAMEQ, together with representatives from some units of the STAMEQ.

On the side of KLC, was Mr. Kap Seok – Chairman of KCL, together with representatives from some units of the KLC.
Speaking at the meeting, the Chairman of KCL said that currently KCL and Quatest 3 ( under STAMEQ) have been conducting cooperation about wood pellet product. Korea is still importing wood pellets from abroad, including 60% total from Viet Nam. Before being imported into the Korea market, the wood pellets all have to tested and certificated by KCL, then they will be brought out the market. However, if these products are unsatisfactory at Korean port, they will have to return to Viet Nam and that will become a risk to Vietnamese exporters.

Therefore, we desire to cooperate with the Quality assurance and testing center 3 (Quatest 3) to test these pellet products at Quatest 3. If these pellet wood products are satisfactory, Quatest 3 will send results to KLC and KCL will certify the results. This work facilitates Vietnamese enterprises not to face risks.
Beside that, Mr Yoon, Kap Seok also said that currently Quatest 3 also has the equipments fully and good human resources. However, to meet the needs of Korea Goverment, it is necessary to invest more equipments and train the experts for Quatest 3.
It is expected that in June 2020, Vietnamese wood pellet exporting enterprises may check their products through Quatest 3. Accordingly, it will help Viet Nam wood pellet exporting enterprises reduce costs.
“We are looking forward to more cooperation in the future, besides the cooperation between the KLC and Quatest 3 – STAMEQ, KCL wishes to cooperate more with the STAMEQ in the coming time ”, the Chairman of KCL commented.

Also in the meeting, Deputy General Director Mr. Nguyen Hoang Linh appreciated highly the close cooperation with KLC about wood pellet products. Quatest 3 is one of the leading organizations in Vietnam in the field of product certification, the STAMEQ will fully supports the project of equipment investment and we fully have the capacity and targets to meet the needs of the Korean Government.
In addition, Deputy Director General also wishes to promote cooperation with KCL in the coming time to create a premise for the next development steps.
